When I was younger the term 'ignorance is bliss' served for things such as not wanting to hear about what your ex-girlfriend did when she cheated on you. Actually, it's one of the most important lessons I've learned in life. The more I look into the whys and hows of everything that occurs the way it does in the world, the unhappier I become overall, because things become more and more meaningless in the face of the sheer magnitude, complication, and seemingly aleatory formulation of everything we know. I have a sinking feeling that despite the fact that randomly evolving consciousness has been beneficial to our survival and dominance of Earth, it will also be our downfall.
Instead of being overwhelmed with joy at the fact we are conscious beings capable of experiencing joy in the first place, we are instantly enslaved by the understanding of our own mortality, and meaninglessness of life.
